A Humming Bird

Posted in Animal painting, birds, European Style, flower painting with tags , , , , , on March 29, 2017 by yumi

Hello there! It’s getting warmer and we can hear footsteps of spring here. We will have cherry blossoms soon.

My family and I celebrated my husband’s parents’ 58th wedding anniversary a couple of days ago at a fancy Chinese restaurant in a hotel with them. I am glad they have been together such a long time together. Since I took some pics of the foods, I will update my other blog soon. If you are interested in Japanese Chinese cuisine (Well, in Japan some Chinese foods are called “cuisine”.), please check it out in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, in this blog, I want to show you my newest plate. I painted this plate for my in-laws. As you know, we don’t have humming birds in Japan, and they have never seen them in person. I saw them at my Alabama mom, Dixie’s several times. They are really tiny, and since then I wanted to paint them some time.

This is my first time to paint humming birds and I just loved it. I want to practice it more.

When you look at my plate, you imagine the humming bird’s buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sounds, it makes me really happy!

I will update my blog in two weeks and will show you a portrait for the first time in a couple of years!

Have a lovely week and see you soon!

Practicing Butterflies!

Posted in European Style, Fantasy, Modern Style with tags , , , , on February 12, 2017 by yumi

Hi there!

How have you been? We have snow in Japan, and the weather is really cold. I started knitting for the first time in three years! I am knitting a pair of mittens to my mom.  However, my kitty, Jiji annoys me a lot when I knit. I can’t focus on knitting. Even so, I am enjoying knitting and playing with Jiji at the same time, lol.

Today I want to show you my butterfly plate.  I bought lots of painting supplies at my Italian painting teacher, Patrizia’s and to get used to them, I started practicing both with her painting supplies and techniques. I chose butterflies as my first practice subjects.

I know I need practice more to paint butterflies, but I am happy that my first butterflies look good. I have more ideas about butterfly paintings, and you will see more this year.

Painting with Simona-Marina Braathen from France マスタークラブ大阪のシモナ先生のセミーに参加させていただきました

This entry is both in Japanese and English, but I don’t translate what I write in English into Japanese, visa versa. If you are interested in what I write in your unknown language, feel free to ask me. I am willing to tell you.

Yesterday, I took a class from Simona-Marina Braathen from France in Osaka, Japan with members of Master club. Master Club had an exhibition and she was visiting Japan as a feature artist for the show. Master Club is a porcelain painting club in Japan to improve our painting skills. I am not a member, but some of members asked me to take the class. Well, I had a great time with members and Simona. It was so much fun! I was just in love with her techniques because I love preciseness, lol. We made a pendant to scratch the surface of the porcelain with unfired black paints with a toothpick. The butterfly on the porcelain looks lace! The techniques were amazing!! I learned some new techniques, and now I have so many ideas to use them on my works.

First of all, I want to finish my piece. Secondly, I want to practice what I learned. Thirdly, I want to create my own art with the techniques!

You will see my piece with Simona’s techniques some day soon.

Thank you as always for your support! See you around here again next weekend!

What I learned in Michigan Porcelain Painting School ~Part 2

Hello there! How are you doing?

It’s getting hotter in Japan, and my hate season is coming. We are in a rainy season now.

Well, today I want to share my modern piece with you. I learned how to design modern patterns last month by Paula White in Michigan school. The class was very interesting. She showed several samples how to design modern patterns, and we ourselves designed our original design with Paula’s help.

I prefer traditional patterns and I am lack of experiences. However, since Paula was a excellent teacher, I really enjoyed designing my piece.

I hope you all like my modern piece.

Salon Blank International Exhibition of Contemporary Art

Posted in American Syle, Animal painting, Awards, competition, Fantasy, International Convention, Japanese, Japanese Style, Kutani, Modern Style with tags , , , , , , , on April 22, 2014 by yumi

Hi there!

How’s the weather in your place? In Japan we are in the mid of spring, and I really enjoy it. I love spring because I was born in April. My parents told me when I was born, the cherry blossoms were full blooming. I guess that’s why I love cherry blossoms and spring.

This spring, an exciting thing happened to me. I tried to get in Salon Blank International Exhibition of Contemporary Art, and it’s my first try and got a prize to two of my pieces. Since it was my purpose to got a prize and get into the show to show my artwork ( I mean if I wouldn’t get a prize, I couldn’t get into the show.), I’m super happy 🙂

Here are my pieces.

I painted a floating bosastu. Bosatsu means buddha. We have several curving floating bosatsu in Kyoto, and when I saw them with my friend from America, I thought they were so pretty. I really wanted to paint them.  I painted the floating bosatsu with the Kutani techniques and the Western techniques.  This piece is a test piece for me to paint more floating bosatsu. I really want to paint all floating bosatsu with this idea soon! I can’t wait to show my new piece of floating bosatsu to you all!

Next one is my cat.

Jiji

Jiji

Jiji is my kitty’s name, and he came to our house last June. Since then, I really really love him. Painting Jiji was so much fun. This piece is my imagination, and we don’t have mice at home. He is really playful, and he is peering through mice to play with them or maybe to eat.

I think it’s one of the hardest parts for us painters to make our pieces closer what we imagine in our mind. I’ve always been struggling with this, but to be honest with you that’s why I love painting. Meanwhile, I really enjoyed painting Jiji, and you will see my kitty’s pieces more from now on!

Happy Easter!

Posted in European Style, Fantasy, flower painting, International Convention, Modern Style, Uncategorized with tags , , , on April 19, 2014 by yumi

Happy Easter, everyone!

Although in Japan most of us don’t celebrate it because most of us are Buddhists, the Easter season is the Cherry Blossoms season for us.

I bought this cute blank plate from Peter Faust. Since it’s gotten a rabbit on the plate, I thought painting Easter was a great idea. Then, I designed my style of Easter plate. I painted cherry blossoms with luster. When I ordered this plate to Peter, he said that I should NOT use luster on the plate. However, I totally forgot what he advised me and DID it…….

When I looked at what happened to my plate, I was a little bit shocked because it got a lot of tiny white spots. But, I kept painting on it, and as a result, I think the white spots added some interests to my design.

In Osaka we have several nice spots where we can enjoy viewing cherry blossoms. I designed my plate from this type of cherry blossoms called Yae-Zakura in Japanese.
