A Humming Bird

Posted in Animal painting, birds, European Style, flower painting with tags , , , , , on March 29, 2017 by yumi

Hello there! It’s getting warmer and we can hear footsteps of spring here. We will have cherry blossoms soon.

My family and I celebrated my husband’s parents’ 58th wedding anniversary a couple of days ago at a fancy Chinese restaurant in a hotel with them. I am glad they have been together such a long time together. Since I took some pics of the foods, I will update my other blog soon. If you are interested in Japanese Chinese cuisine (Well, in Japan some Chinese foods are called “cuisine”.), please check it out in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, in this blog, I want to show you my newest plate. I painted this plate for my in-laws. As you know, we don’t have humming birds in Japan, and they have never seen them in person. I saw them at my Alabama mom, Dixie’s several times. They are really tiny, and since then I wanted to paint them some time.

This is my first time to paint humming birds and I just loved it. I want to practice it more.

When you look at my plate, you imagine the humming bird’s buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sounds, it makes me really happy!

I will update my blog in two weeks and will show you a portrait for the first time in a couple of years!

Have a lovely week and see you soon!

City Art Show

Posted in American Syle, Animal painting, Awards, birds, competition with tags , , , , on September 24, 2016 by yumi

Long time no see. I apologize for my laziness. I was busy trying to get in a city art show where I live. The art show is not a porcelain show and I had to compete with around 500 artworks. Everyone can enter one piece, and if they can’t win a prize, their piece can’t be displayed. If you want many people to see your piece, you have to win a prize. That’s the show rule.

I tried to enter the show with this piece and made it. When I received the news, I was very happy for it.

A couple of days ago, I went to the museum where my piece has been shown with my hubby. Before going there,  he and I were talking how many pieces would be in the show. He told me he guessed that everybody could get in the show because it’s the city art show. Well, we met some people who couldn’t get in there. I talked with several of them, and they told me that they have been trying for several years, but it’s hard for them to get in. They came there to get their pieces back. The show had prepared two rooms to put the pieces which couldn’t get in. I saw many pieces were there.

I realized that to get in the show was a little bit more difficult that I had thought. The show is more serious that I had imagined. When I heard their stories, I felt sorry for them. At the same time I appreciated my luck.

While we were looking around, I heard an elderly woman who was with her husband pointing at my piece and said, “Oh, I love this one!”. It totally made my day.

It was fun to try out to get in a real art show. I want to do this every year from now on.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and supporting me! I will try to post something every weekend constantly, but I guess that I sometimes won’t be able to do this. Now, I am painting some mushrooms on mugs, and you will see them next weekend.

See you around next weekend!

Bird Painting with Fat Oil

Posted in birds, Dresden, European Style, Meissen Style, Miniatures with tags , , , , , on July 14, 2015 by yumi

Hi there! How are you doing today?

Here in Japan, every day is too muggy and without air conditioners it’s hard for us to live. I have been complaining a lot against this weather. Ah, I really really hate Japanese summer.

Well, have you been painting? I am busy for my assignments for my school, but I want to paint different subjects from my school. I just started thinking what I want to paint. You will see what I paint on my blog later.

Today, I want to show you my bird painting. This bird’s design is from the Meissen factory, and this is one of my assignments for my school.

This is one fire.  I painted the bird with fat oil.

I like this simple design a lot. I hope you all like my bird painting with the European techniques as well.

Thank you as always for your support! See you next week on my blog again!

TIPP convention in 2015

Posted in American Syle, Animal painting, Awards, birds, competition with tags , , , on April 12, 2015 by yumi

Hi there! I am very sorry that my blog post was so delay.

Last month I attended the international Thai porcelain convention. It was my second time to attend it.

This time I attended as an interpreter for my Japanese painting teacher even though my English is not good enough.

After the convention, my teacher, his wife and my respectable Japanese painting friend, Keiko Shimizu enjoyed sightseeing with a Thai painter. I will write about it later. In this entry, I want to focus on a competition.

I attended two pieces to the competition, and one of them got a silver prize!

Last time, I got a honorable mention, and this time I got a silver prize. I was so lucky!  I got the certification from a Councillor of the king of Thailand. I was so honored it. I also attended a Gala dinner with a Princess of Thailand.

I want to write about the convention more, but I don’t have much time. I will write about the sequel after I return back to Japan from America.

I will go back to the States today and will stay there for a month.  See you next month on my blog again!

My Bird Painting ~Part 2~

Hi friends!

How are you doing? I have had a cold since two weeks ago, and I still can’t stop coughing. I hope tomorrow I will feel better.

Today I want to show my other bird painting. I painted this one for the Canada international porcelain convention. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any award, I like this painting. I hope you also like it.

Since the competition theme was about Canada, I painted a Canada Goose for it.

Luster Work!

Posted in American Syle, Animal painting, birds, European Style, flower painting with tags , , , , , on April 17, 2014 by yumi

Hi there! It’s been quite a long while since I updated my last blog entry. I’m really sorry for the delay.

I went back to the States again and took some classes at Cheri’s International Painting Studio in Huston, TX with my friend from Bolivia, Fresia.  After the classes, we enjoyed traveling around New Orleans, and I want to write about it on my another blog entry.

In this entry, I want to show you my pieces that I learned from Mary Gosden and Peter Faust.

I took two of Mary’s classes in September last year with Dixie. She is the first teacher who taught me how to handle luster. Since then, I have become more interested in using luster to my works. I have come to like it!

This is the class subject that I took. This design has belonged to Mary Gosden.  She is one of the best teachers whom I have taken before! Everyone loves her, and we really enjoyed painting with her. Mary will come to Anna’s painting studio next summer again, and I really can’t wait to take two classes from her again!!!!

One day Anna took us to a Chinese restaurant with Mary.  We had a great lunch time there!!

In the Last day, Mary and we threw a chocolate party! It was so much fun!

Thank you so much for teaching me, Mary!!!

Next is the class subject what I painted with Peter Faust. Since taking his classes, I’ve been involved in designing more modern patterns. He definitely has given me a huge influence! I learned a lot of things from him.

This unique porcelain was designed by Nancy Benedettii. I’m so lucky to get in the classes thanks to my dear friend, Fresia!

She and I really enjoyed hanging out and painting even though we sometimes argued. Through arguing, we have become much closer friends!

At the Cheri’s painting studio, I met some of my Facebook friends,  Wilma, Karen, Cheri, Nancy, Herta, Dian, in person for the first time! I also met some new friends there. Everyday, we hanged out to eat dinner and had a wonderful time together!

This is not a class subject.  Cheri gave each of us a blank porcelain with Peter’s original pattern. Since I took two classes, I got two of white porcelain which has a different pattern.  While taking a class, I painted on one of the pieces by myself. The pattern belongs to Peter, but the idea belongs to me.

I don’t want to excuse, but I know my piece is lack of values. Since I didn’t have enough time for firing and I wanted to give this piece to a friend of Fresia while I was in the States, I fired this piece two times. I wish I could fire one more time….. but I love my idea. Using the similar idea, I want to paint another piece some day!
